This policy explains what information is collected when you visit MayerExpert.com, why it is collected, and what rights you have. It is written to satisfy the California Online Privacy Protection Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, and the UK GDPR.

This site is operated by William Mayer in his individual capacity in connection with his expert witness practice. It is not operated by, and is not affiliated with, his employer.
2. What this site collects
This is a static informational website. There are no accounts, no forms, no payment processing, and no user-generated content. Two categories of information are involved.
Aggregate analytics
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-preserving analytics service, to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. The service does not use cookies or any other client-side storage, does not assign persistent identifiers, does not fingerprint devices, and does not track visitors across other websites. It records, in aggregate and without storing personal data: the page visited, the referring site or search engine, the approximate country or region derived from the IP address, and the general device and browser type. IP addresses are processed transiently to derive that approximate location and are not stored or made available to me.
I cannot identify any individual visitor from this data, and I do not attempt to.
Information you send me
If you contact me by email or telephone, I receive whatever you choose to send: your name, contact details, the firm you are with, and any information about a matter you describe. That is ordinary correspondence, not information collected by the website.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
This site sets no cookies of its own. It uses no advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking pixels, no session replay, no fingerprinting, and no profiling.
Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those fonts, Google receives your IP address and browser information as a technical necessity of serving the request. Google does not set cookies through the Fonts API. If you prefer to avoid this entirely, browser extensions that block third-party font loading will do so without affecting the readability of this site.
4. Why this information is processed, and on what legal basis
For visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the legal bases under Article 6 of the GDPR are:
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for aggregate analytics — specifically, my interest in understanding whether this site reaches the professional audience it is intended for. Because the analytics are cookieless and do not identify individuals, the effect on your privacy is minimal.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)), and where an engagement follows, performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)), for correspondence you initiate.
Because no cookies or similar storage are used for analytics, no consent banner is presented. If that ever changes, consent will be requested before any non-essential cookie is set.
5. Who receives this information
The analytics provider processes data on my behalf as a processor under a data processing agreement. My email and telephone providers necessarily handle correspondence. Beyond that, information is disclosed only where required by law, court order, or subpoena, or where necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.
I do not sell personal information. I do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. I have never done either, and this site is not built to permit it.
6. International transfers
I am located in the United States, and information reaching me is processed there. Where personal data of visitors in the EEA or the UK is transferred to the United States, the transfer is made in reliance on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, as incorporated into my agreement with the analytics provider, together with supplementary measures including the provider's practice of not storing IP addresses. A copy of the relevant terms is available on request.
7. How long information is kept
Aggregate analytics are retained by the provider for its standard retention period and contain no personal data after processing. Correspondence is retained for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was sent and thereafter as required for conflict-checking, professional, and legal-record purposes. Where an engagement results, retention follows the terms of the engagement agreement and any applicable preservation obligation.
8. Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK
You have the right to request access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, erasure, restriction of processing, and portability, and the right to object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests. You may exercise any of these by writing to the address in Section 1. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority, or with the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom.
Because the analytics data does not identify you, I will generally not be able to locate a record relating to you within it, and may ask for information to help identify any correspondence you are asking about.
If you are a California resident
California law gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, used, disclosed, or sold; the right to delete personal information; the right to correct inaccurate personal information; the right to opt out of sale or sharing; the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of these rights.
The only categories of personal information involved here are identifiers and internet activity information, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and only to the limited extent described in Section 2. No sensitive personal information is collected. Nothing is sold or shared for cross-context behavioral advertising, so no opt-out mechanism is required. To exercise any right, write to the address in Section 1; I will respond within the period the statute allows.
California's "Shine the Light" law permits California residents to request information about disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. I make no such disclosures.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Because this site performs no cross-site tracking of any kind, there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to disable. Signals sent by your browser are honored by default as a consequence of how the site is built rather than as a separate setting.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Email is not an encrypted medium, and I ask that you not send confidential or privileged information by email before an engagement is in place and a conflict check has been completed.
10. Children
This site is directed to attorneys and other professionals. It is not directed to children, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under sixteen.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes — in particular, the introduction of any cookie or tracking technology — will be noted prominently on this page.
